Mark Meyer-Braun Takes Spring Semester Sabbatical

By Noni Waite-Kucera

Beginning January 1, 2007 and running through July, our Head of School, Mark Meyer-Braun, will be heading back to Brown University to finalize work toward his dissertation and be one big step closer to completing his PhD in Ethnomusicology. We are all very excited for Mark as he steps back into the role of student and tackles the voluminous transcribing work that needs to be done to complete his dissertation entitled “Institutional Pedagogy and Community Transmission in Mafi-Ewe Musical Reproduction”.

Ted Wesemann (left) will take the reins as OA’s Head of School this spring.

The Outdoor Academy is most fortunate to have Ted Wesemann, master teacher and former Head of School for OA, stepping in to lead the spring semester (see Ted’s article on pg. 2.) As many of you know, Ted was the founding Head of School for OA and is the inspiration behind much of what OA is today. Ted will continue to teach Natural Science in the upcoming semester as well as assume the duties of Head of School.

I believe that it is a real testament to the mission and spirit of Eagle’s Nest and OA that not only are our students encouraged and challenged to be life long learners but that our leaders and teachers are practicing what they teach. We look forward to the exciting semester ahead under Ted’s leadership and to Mark’s return in July.
