In August of this year, The Outdoor Academy’s Fall Semester of 1998 came together for a reunion hosted by Molly Chapman.

Nest Chatter
As always, it’s been an exciting year for Eagle’s Nesters around the world. Here’s the latest news from the Nest:
Zanne Garland (Camper, Staff) wrote in to let us know that after finishing over 700 miles on the Appalachian Trail she is now back on the West Coast teaching students natural science in Gig Harbor, Washington.
Eliza Sydnor (Camper, Staff, OA) wrote in and sent pictures from the Semester VII reunion at the end of the summer. She also updated us on the goings on of some of the other students from her semester. Carrie Cole (OA) got married in September. Kent Ureday (OA) has just returned from Japan where he was teaching English. Molly Chapman (OA, Camp, Staff) also spent last year teaching English in Japan and is now working as a teacher’s assistant at the Montessori School in Winston-Salem and coaching field hockey at Salem Academy. Lydia Beaudrot (Camper, Staff, OA) returned from a year of studying monkeys in Costa Rica this summer and led a Hante for Eagle’s Nest before moving to Boston where she has accepted a research job at Harvard University. Chelsea Arkin (Camp, OA) is living and working in Atlanta. Adam Smith (Camp, OA) spent the summer working for UNC-CH and is returning to ASU in the fall. McNeill Mann (Camp, OA, Staff) spent the summer traveling and leading Hantes for Eagle’s Nest Camp. She is now at Prescott College in Arizona. Gabe Rogers (Camp, OA, Staff) is working and living in Brooklyn, NY. Sarah Candler (OA) is in a post baccalaureate program at UVA in Charlottesville, VA preparing for medical school. Graham Brugh (Camp, OA, Staff) is attending UNC-Asheville. Meg McCarter is living in Asheville and preparing to travel in Thailand. Able Jones (Camp, OA) has returned from a year of building houses in Hawaii. Liz Cairns is currently in the Peace Corps in the Dominican Republic.

We recently received an email and lots of beautiful pictures from Miles Morgan (Camper, Staff Member and current Trustee, pictured on right) who completed a climb of Mt. St. Helens this fall. Miles wrote that it was the PERFECT day to get to the summit.

Jen Hunt (Camper, Staff) is planning a trip to Ghana to learn more about dance while experiencing the culture. She’s planning to stay for 6 weeks. She has also been working with Yosemite Search and Rescue and is enjoying working in the medical/ wilderness world.
Congratulations to Walter Kucera (Camp, OA) who was the Valedictorian of his high school class this spring.
Kaitlin Friedman (Campers, Staff, OA) spent the spring studying in Dunedin, New Zealand. She also received an honorable mention from the Udall Foundation.
Glenn Ingram (Staff) recently graduated from the National College of Naturopathic Medicine with a doctorate in naturopathic medicine. He is also engaged to be married.
Tucker Nelson (Camper) is a junior at Beloit College in Wisconsin. He is taking ballroom dancing, singing in the choir and planning to major in Directing.
Isabel Nelson (Camper) has been in Uganda working for a British nonprofit teaching health and HIV awareness. She’s planning to travel to London to begin a program in physical theatre.
Phoebe Haupt (Staff Member) has been living and leading trips in Nicaragua. She is also leading an “empowerment” workshop series called “Becoming You” for 11 and 12-year-old girls.

Jonathan Romm (Camper, Staff Member) wrote in to let us know that he’s in graduate school at the University of South Carolina studying higher education administration.
Carl Boland (Staff) is teaching at Inside Out in Flat Rock, NC this fall. He is hoping to start an MBA program at Western Carolina in the spring. He will be traveling over to Tanzania later this fall.
Claire Wofford (Camper, Staff), who is a student at Wake Forest, has been helping us out with projects in the Winston-Salem office this fall. It’s wonderful to see her frequently, and we’re all so thankful for her help!
We are saddened to write that two playful and loyal camp dogs passed away this fall, Helen’s Shelty Cuillen Waite and Noni’s lab Maya.
We also welcome Quoddy Davidson Kucera, the English Blockheaded Chocolate Lab who recently joined the Waite-Kucera family. He’ll be spending his summer at camp!
