  • What's Happening in the Garden?

    by Ryan Houghton, Garden Manager

April was a whirlwind of activity in the garden.  The new layout is starting to really take shape. We now have 12 beds in the new design fully prepared, mostly planted with summer crops, and growing nicely.  We also have...click the title above to read the complete post.

  • An Eagle's Nest Earth Day

    by Liz Snyder, Assistant Director

On Saturday, several Eagle’s Nest staff members spent the day at the Piedmont Environmental Alliance Earth Day Fair in Winston-Salem. The Earth Day Fair is an annual event that brings hundreds of community members and exhibitors together to celebrate the earth and combine efforts and ideas to help our environment flourish. For the past several years, we’ve hosted a children’s activity at the fair, and we were happy to do that again this weekend.

We created several...click the title above to read the complete post.

In just over a month campers from across the country and abroad will be packing up their trunks and getting ready to head to camp. • The Little Things

    by Caroline Toy, Assistant Director

    COMING SOON:
    EAGLES NEST CAMP!

At the end of a movie, most people get up, collect their popcorn buckets (because leaving no trace is awesome!), and leave the theater long before the end of the credits. I always sit through them—partly because the number of people it takes to make a movie is unbelievably huge. Behind the actors, directors, camera-people, and composers, there are hundreds of people who drive buses, sew costumes, make coffee, and carry props. And every single one of them is necessary for making that movie.

We see that at camp..click the title to read the complete post.

  • When children learn to feel at home in the natural world they begin to see their place in a giant web of interconnections.   Being able to be outside whether it is in a park, in the wilderness or simply in your backyard is opening so many doors for a young person.  And once those doors are opened, they tend to stay open for a lifetime.   It is a vital connection and the earlier you start the better...click the title above to read the complete post.

  • Lake Charity

by George Linney, Alum and Parent Counselor

It is great to see Liz and Lucas jumping for joy at the bottom of the Eagle’s Nest Camp Lake. Charity is its proper name, and almost all my memories of the lake are both joyful and charitable, but to see this body of water drained takes me back to another sort of memory. When I was a little boy, probably,,,click the title above to read the complete post.

  • Spotting Fairies

    by Krista White, Registrar

Do you believe in fairies? I do. All you need to do is learn how to spot the signs of them and you will start seeing them everywhere.  At Eagle’s Nest Camp there is a special class called Forest Magic where you can...click the title to read the complete post.

  • Whispers of Spring

    by Caroline Toy, Assistant Director

It’s a beautiful day in Pisgah Forest—the sky is clear, the sun is bright, and it’s COLD! But looking ahead, winter is on its way out, here and across the country. I recently noticed...click the title above to read the complete post.

  • A Gathering of Great Minds

    by Noni Waite-Kucera, Executive Director

A few weeks ago the Eagle’s Nest Foundation Board of Trustees gathered on campus for a weekend of strategizing and making plans for the future of our school and camp. We are very fortunate to have such a dedicated group of volunteers who care so deeply about Eagle’s Nest.   Their history with the organization, skills and professional backgrounds are so valuable to our collective ability to both position Eagle’s Nest well for the future and at the same time retain traditions that are dear to so many. Beyond the...click the title above to read the complete post.

  • Campership at Eagle's Nest

by Susan Gies Conley, Director of Development

When you’re sitting in the dining hall during a meal, you’d never know that 19% of the campers sitting on those long benches have received financial assistance to be there.  And that’s just how it should be at Eagle’s Nest.  The only differences between campers are those of tribe, cabin, and the special sparkle that makes each camper fully appreciated for who they are...click the title to read the complete post.
