The new year is almost here! As we say hello to 2012, we’re also looking further down the road because it’s less than six months till camp begins. Are you excited? We definitely are. Here are some awesome things to look forward to at camp this coming summer.
10. Warmer weather: As it gets cold at home, think of the bright sun on Sundays during Capture the Flag…it’s closer than you think!
9. Square dances: Swing your partner round and round, swing that friend and don’t fall down!
8. Cho-chos: Need we say more? It’ll be cookout time—with the JCs’ great burgers and veggie burgers and fabulous CHO-CHOs—before you know it.
7. Giving Day: Many of us are giving and receiving wonderful presents at this time of year…and some of us are already thinking about shadowing our Giving Day person and making them a secret gift during Session II next year.
6. Final Banquet: For one special day during Session III, campus transforms into a fantastic world where campers create and experience a story—anything from Alice in Wonderland to The Lorax. When you look at the holiday lights this winter, imagine the magical worlds you’ll help create at camp this summer!
5. Gardening: As Liz says, “watching things grow and then eating them” makes our meals from the Whole Kitchen even better (and we didn’t think that was possible!). Everyone at camp has the opportunity to bring food to our plates by planting, composting, weeding, and harvesting. How will you help our garden grow this summer?
4. Lunchtime singing: Every day at lunch, the sound of everyone at camp singing in the dining hall echoes through the quad, over Cabin 7 Field, and across the lakes and creeks. Come June, we’ll join our voices together in old favorites and learn new ones.
3. Added Adventures: If you’ve been on Huck Finn—or any other Added Adventure—you know how special this experience is! This summer, we’ll send Adventurers to Cumberland Island in Georgia, down the French Broad in Tennessee, and across the bike trails of DuPont State Forest. If you’re in seventh or eighth grade, you can still join us for an exciting trip and a fantastic time at camp!
2. Advancing in Indian Village: Maybe this coming summer you’ll be taking new classes, striving for your Pathfinder rank. Maybe you’ve been coming to Eagle’s Nest for years and you want to focus on skills that will allow you to advance to Warrior—or even Brave! Your hard work will be recognized in front of the community at Indian Village. You’ve earned it!
1. And finally, the biggest highlight of all: Making new friends (and keeping the old)! We’re so excited to welcome you back to Eagle’s Nest—or to make your first year exciting! We know you’re psyched to see each other too, whether you’re reuniting with old friends or meeting new ones.
Oh, the summertime’s a-coming…
