I tend to believe that there is magic all around us – especially if we’re open to it. At camp, there’s either an extra dose of magic, or there are just lots of people who are open to it, because magical things happen everyday.

For me, magic is spotting a turtle in a field of tall wet grass. It’s getting a letter from a camp friend, and opening it to find that it is filled with pink glitter. Magic is finding a four leaf clover, and knowing that giving it away to a special friend will bring even more luck your way.

There’s also something magical about being able to spend a week, or even a whole summer with people who see how special you are, who will sit next to you in the grass, who will hold your hand in a circle (even if they don’t know you very well).

Camp helps us believe in ourselves. It helps us take on new challenges and learn things we didn’t even know we needed to learn. It helps us open our ears to the rhythm of nature, and open our eyes to the many colors of the sky. It makes everyday moments and discoveries extraordinary. What could be more magical!
