A classic Added Adventure returns this summer! Campers start with the traditional Eagle's Nest Camp experience, then head to the Sea Islands - a chain of tidal and barrier islands off the coasts of South Carolina and Georgia - for a week of camping and exploring costal ecosystems while learning about the diverse flora, fauna, and cultures found on the coast.
This year we'll visit Cumberland Island, the southernmost island of the Georgia Sea Islands. Cumberland is preserved as a National Seashore with no bridge to the mainland, no motor vehicles, and no towns. In addition to its pristine environment, Cumberland has a rich history of settlement by Native Americans, Spanish explorers, and people from across the eastern United States.
Join us for an exciting adventure in beach life and ocean ecology!
Check out our tentative itinerary!
Sea Islands is an add-on trip during Session I, and begins and ends at Eagle's Nest.
Session II: Huck Finn
June 24 - July 13, 2012
For campers completing grades 5-6 in spring 2012
Cost: $3,600
Huck Finn is FULL for 2012!
Have you ever dreamed of floating down a mighty river on a tiny self-built raft and experiencing Huck's great adventure? Do you like telling tall tales and making mischief? On this adventure, campers venture into Mark Twain's novel as Jim, the Duke, and Huck, floating down the French Broad River. Navigate by the river banks and stars as you make your way west. Participants prepare the rafts and learn from communities along the river!
