Eagle’s Nest at ACA
Hiking boots and puffy jackets are sweeping the streets of downtown Atlanta this week, a stark contrast to the suits and ties usually seen hustling up and down city sidewalks. Smiles are abundant, and handshakes are often replaced by hugs. The American Camp Association’s annual national conference is in full swing, playing host to camp professionals and enthusiasts from all corners of the United States. Attendees spend the week learning, playing, and swapping ideas about how to make their programs better than ever and sharing in mutual admiration and respect for summer camping.
Eagle’s Nest is well-represented at the conference with nearly our entire full-time camp crew in attendance. We’re barely 24 hours into the swing of things, and I am already feeling inspired and excited about all I’ve learned. The workshops we’ve attended thus far range from staff training ideas, to the concept of Noticing Deficit Disorder, to making camp more inclusive for all campers. Needless to say, there is much to learn and experience this week, and Paige, Marlin, Ayana, and I are excited to be part of it.
Stay tuned for a full conference re-cap! Until then, check out the American Camp Association’s website to learn more about this significant organization.
