Asheville, NC
An alumna of The Outdoor Academy (Semester I) and the Hante Program (Maine AT Trek - 1997), Rebecca Blecke Hilinski has also been a camper and counselor at other camps in Western NC, so the mountains have been a second home to her for many years. She has been a member of the Eagle’s Nest Board of Trustees since 2008.
Rebecca received a Bachelors degree in Biology from Colorado College, and a Masters in Public Administration from Texas State University. Her focus on biodiversity and conservation provided the opportunity to explore Alaska and Tanzania during her academic career, studying conservation strategies in a variety of ecological and cultural regions. Rebecca has worked with nonprofit land trusts to protect significant private lands throughout the country over the past several years.
Now living in Asheville, Rebecca is a conservation broker for Frontline Conservation Real Estate, a small non-traditional real estate brokerage and land investment firm serving the needs of conservation minded sellers and buyers. Frontline Conservation works exclusively with buyers, sellers and conservation organizations to facilitate real estate transactions and capital investment strategies to protect highly valued conservation properties. Rebecca is also involved with the Junior League of Asheville, researching and developing successful community projects for the League to implement throughout the year.
Rebecca finds incredible value in experiential education and meaningful involvement working with the OA program to strengthen its academic rigor, nationwide recognition, and impact that student work can have on the local and regional community. She also enjoys talking with OA applicants, answering questions they have and sharing how the OA experience has impacted her own life. Having truly benefited personally from the Hante program, she actively assists program staff with identifying successful Hante adventures and encouraging young enthusiastic high school students to take advantage of this incredible opportunity. Implementing the values of environmental stewardship through building a "Green" campus is also an exciting new commitment of the Foundation, and one she is very happy to be a part of.
