Elen Knott
Elen’s daughters, Sara and Hannah Knott, went to Eagle’s Nest Camp for many years as campers and counselors. They both have young families, two daughters each, who, she says, “are in training as future Nesters.” “Decades have passed”—the number unspecified—since Elen joined the Board of Trustees.
Elen was a Peace Corps Volunteer for two years in the Philippines. Subsequently, she became a librarian at the University of Pennsylvania and MIT as well as at Wake Forest University, where she retired following more than twenty years as a reference librarian and head of department.
Currently, she is involved in Master Gardener Volunteer activities in Winston Salem, digging and delving in themed gardens at the Arboretum at Tanglewood Park, a county managed estate. This group also runs school programs grounded in North Carolina curriculum standards.
Elen traveled extensively with her husband Bob, who taught Art History for over forty years, mostly at Wake Forest. Now Elen contributes her energy and wisdom to ENF. “My kids got a good dose of self reliance at ENF,” she says; “it’s easy to support this concept.”
