Wilderness Instructor/Leadership Development (WILD)
This year, Eagle’s Nest is extremely excited to be offering a Hante designed to give current graduating high school students an opportunity to develop the skills necessary to become a wilderness instructor. With outdoor programs exploding throughout the country and more and more colleges offering wilderness adventure opportunities, this course is designed to provide participants with both the hard and soft skills necessary for obtaining employment instructing in the field.
For over thirty years, the Hante Program has provided an opportunity for young people to develop as leaders while traveling throughout wilderness areas in this and other countries. And, at the forefront of all those adventures are our instructors, many of who are former Hante or Outdoor Academy students who bring a tremendous amount of talent, ideas, and skills to the program. This Hante has been specifically built from all that we have learned and compiled from our thirty years of instructing wilderness and cultural expeditions in combination with the standards current with this ever-evolving industry.
Beginning with an eight-day Wilderness First Responder Course, and continuing with an extensive field section, participants will have the opportunity to learn wilderness leadership techniques and skills from our long-time instructors. Throughout this course, participants will be challenged to recognize and develop their leadership styles, learn tricks of the trade, learn effective teaching methodologies, and spend time trying it all out.
Basing out of the Hante headquarters – the Sun Lodge, this course will be an intensive two-weeks of learning and leading. Along the way, participants will also have the opportunity to brush up on their wilderness skills, learn and execute lesson plans, and even design their own small course. All participants should have wilderness experience and a strong desire for becoming a wilderness instructor. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to prepare yourself for a great future in the outdoor field.
