Description

Have you ever walked across a snowfield in the summertime? Have you ever learned how to navigate through a glacier field? Come along on this incredible international adventure and you can! The New Zealand expedition, the first of its kind, explores the many varying landscapes of the islands. While cruising around in our private transport the group will have the opportunity to visit numerous cities including; Wellington, Christchurch, Queenstown, Timaru, and the Fiordlands. Each location has a unique cultural component that the group will be able to learn about. During the trip, students will begin to develop backcountry travel and group development skills. While traveling as a group, they will learn more about the Maori and Kiwi cultures, as well as view the countless unbelievable landscapes all around the island. There will be many exciting surprises on this Hante and the only way to know what they are is to experience them! Participants are guaranteed to experience unforgettable lessons and adventure.

Day 1
Group Flies from Lax, arriving in Auckland, New Zealand

Day 2
Drive to Rotorua and with the Waitomo Caves and the Rotorua Natural Thermals Park.  
7/17/2008
Day 3
Meet up with a representative from Global Forest Partners and receive information about our 3-4 day service project.   Project could include a tree planting project and a tree-pulling project.

Day 6
Finish up with the GFP Service Project and head to Wellington.

Day 7
Tour Wellington.   Visit the national museums, observe the architecture, galleries, etc.

Take ferry from Wellington to Picton.

Day 9
Tour Picton and surrounding areas.   Participate in a bone-carving class facilitated by a local artist.

Day 10
Begin the 4-day Abel Tasman Coastal Trek.

Finish Trek and drive to Christchurch.   Check into our accommodations and then go tour Christchurch.

Day of Exploration in Christchurch.   Local surroundings offer spectacular views of the water.

Drive to Franz Josef Glacier, stopping along the way, and check into accommodations.

Climb Franz Josef Glacier for a full day of adventure!

Day 17
Drive to Mt Cook and check into Hostel.   Spend the remainder of the day learning about the weather conditions there, the natural history of Mt Cook, and the culture.

Spend a full day hiking in the Aoraki / Mount Cook National Park.

Drive to Wanaka to have fun in this town!

Short drive through Queenstown to Te Anau.   Here we will get our gear ready for the next trek.

Drive to Gunns Camp, located in the Milford Sound vicinity.

Surprise day of skiing at Cardrona Alpine Resort.   Evening activities include dinner and a closing ceremony.
