In 2011 my previous Hante instructor for ENC's first Alaska trip returned to the Nest after many years to lead Hante WILD. Our small cohort of future wilderness leaders last summer learned an incredible amount under her guidance and leadership, and this year I am incredibly excited to announce that Diane will be returning to lead Hante WILD in 2012! This year our paddling focus fits squarely within her professional skill set, and Diane will be responsible for executing our eight-day tour of the Southeast's most classic whitewater. Additionally, she will also be responsible for teaching our 3-day Wilderness First Aid course, sponsored by Wilderness Medicine Institute. I have been so thankful for Diane's historical perspective and all the work that she has put forward to improve the Hante program in the past year, and I cannot wait to see her bursting smile arrive in June!

Diane Ulmer started working with Eagle's Nest Camp in 2004, as part of the paddling and Hante staff. She has a passion for the river, and has led countless paddling trips over the years with ENF. Some of the many paddling adventures have included open boating the mighty Chattooga, guiding the wooden Huck Finn raft on the French Broad, and dodging many whales sea kayaking on the first Hante Alaska. This summer will mark the second consecutive year in which she has undertaken the training of rising ENF wilderness leaders, through Hante WILD. Her experiences as an Outdoor Leadership Program Director in Colorado, and a current Lead Instructor with the Wilderness Medicine Institute of the National Outdoor Leadership School will enhance the quality of skills and lessons learned on Hante WILD. Diane currently lives in Denver, CO, and works as a school social worker in Denver Public Schools. In her free time, she can be found making powderific turns on the ski slopes, exploring new hiking trails in the Rockies, or simply enjoying a little porch time!
