Tips for Online Safety for Kids
1. Don’t “friend” or talk with people who you don’t know. Sometimes people online can be dangerous and might not be who they say they are, so you should only have online relationships with people you already know in real life: your friends and family
2. Don’t post any personal information anywhere!
a. Personal information is stuff like:
• your home’s address
• your neighborhood or apartment complex’s name
• your phone number
• your school’s name or address
• any sports teams you are on
• your email address
• your last name
• the place that you’re getting ready to go to and hang out with friends.
b. People who know you in real life will be able to contact you without the internet.
3. Be thoughtful about the pictures that you post of yourself and your friends. Think about the message that they send.
4. If you see something online that makes you uncomfortable, get off of the computer and tell your parents.
5. You should also tell your parents if anyone you don’t know or feel uncomfortable with tries to contact you online.
6. Never ever try to meet in person with someone you meet online.
