OASES 2010 Theme & Schedule

OASES 2010
Sustainable Agriculture and Local Foods

We put it into our mouths over three times a day, yet how much do we really know about what we eat? For example, do you know:
  • Where and how your food is grown?
  • Who grows your food?
  • How much energy is used to get food to your dinner plate?
  • What other food options exist?
  • How your food choices affect the world around you?
Deciding what to eat is a cultural, ecological, political, social, and very personal act. We will explore this topic from all different perspectives, including sustainable agriculture, local farming, organic gardening, fast food, slow food, the environmental impacts of food choices, and food systems.

Participants will literally be able to get their hands in the dirt, talk with farmers, learn about food options, and develop a “big picture perspective” of how their food choices fit into a larger ecological footprint. By the end of OASES, participants will be able to make informed decisions about one of the most important questions of the day: “What’s for dinner?”
