Parents and Teachers
Thank you very much for your interest in OASES! Parents of participants and school faculty members are encouraged to become Delegation Advisors and to mentor and advise a delegation of students as they participate in this exciting conference. Of course, the benefits of OASES are not just for students: there are many opportunities for delegation advisors to enjoy as well! OASES is:
- Free! There is no charge for advisors to attend the conference! You don't even have to pay for your accommodations or meals (for student participants there is a $30 fee).
- Fun! Take part in hands-on workshops and panel discussions alongside your students or your child’s peers. You might even find yourself hiking in the woods, climbing a rock tower, or paddling a canoe with some of your students!
- Educational. The workshops and speakers will not only be enjoyable but also informative, as they present the latest information and new ideas about topics such as local food, sustainable agriculture, wild edible plants, soil chemistry, and more.
- Relationship-building. OASES will be a chance to interact with your students in new and dynamic ways. Whether it's the road trip from your sending school to our campus, the meals eaten together in our dining hall, or the time spent hanging out at night after a full day of learning, this conference will be an opportunity to connect with your students in wonderful ways.
Teachers
OASES offers even more benefits for teachers! By attending this conference, you will profit from:
- Networking. Meet other like-minded teachers who are interested in training our young environmental leaders. Share lesson and project ideas and discuss how your classes and your school relate to environmental themes.
- Professional development. There will be numerous break-out sessions for teacher and parent advisors built into the conference schedule. All program components during OASES qualify as continuing education or professional development credit hours. The Outdoor Academy will provide a certificate that documents each advisor's participation. Please contact us if you have questions in this area.
Delegation Advisor Responsibilities
You will fulfill an important role as a mentor and supervisor for the students from your school. Please be aware, this role involves the following responsibilities:

- Obtain a copy of each student's registration paperwork and bring these materials with you to OASES. These forms express parental permission for the student to attend OASES and provide contact and medical information for the participant. Students will submit their original registration materials and $30 payment directly to The Outdoor Academy by mail.
- Arrange transportation for your delegation to and from The Outdoor Academy, with guidance from your school administration and the permission of your participants' parents.
- Supervise the distribution of any medications to the students in your delegation during OASES.
Meeting for Delegation Advisors
Please note that there will be a meeting of all parent and faculty advisors shortly after arrival to campus to review program guidelines, answer questions, and become acquainted with one another.
