welcome to Hante ozarks

On Hante Ozarks, you will spend nine days backpacking the highest section of the Ozarks known as the Boston Mountains. From the tops of these mountains, you will get sweeping valley views of forests, farmlands, and fascinating geologic features. Traversing below the ridgeline, you will be able in investigate such geology up close, cross paths with many cool water features, and take time to appreciate your surroundings while relaxing near potential swimming holes. The diverse mix of topography, vegetation, and wildlife will expose you to the region’s entire range of land forms, uses, and histories. In this way, you will not only be experiencing a unique landscape, but also a unique culture. There will be discussions of how such a place came to be and in what direction it is possibly heading. While the terrain, discussions, and group objectives may be challenging at times, such an experience will bond your group, make way for your own personal growth, and create a foundational sense of accomplishment that can be taken beyond the trip.

  • June 11: Food and gear pack-out, trek preparation with day-hike, and working on backcountry skills. This day will be a busy one! The group will take time to complete pack-out and learn basic campcraft skills before putting them to the test during a short day-hike (potentially with time to explore local swimming holes). From camping at the trailhead the previous night, the group will begin their trek on this first day, challenging and awing the group as you make your way west. The group will work together to navigate rugged terrain, various forest landscapes, and reach and appreciate scenic bluffs. Evenings will be spent camping under the stars, preparing delicious food, debriefing the day’s adventures, practicing leadership skills, and enjoying time together. The trek will end back at Byrd’s Adventure Center in Ozark
  • June 22: Paddle Mulberry River at Byrd’s, prepare for departure, and debrief. With its location right on the river, the group will rent sit-on-top kayaks from Byrd’s for a day of relaxing paddling. They will then wash up, organize, and de-issue gear before a final debrief, all in preparation for tomorrow’s departure.
