Maine Itinerary

July 17th: Group meets at Portland International Jetport.  The afternoon will be spent traveling to your first campsite, getting to know each other and setting goals for the upcoming adventure.

July 18th: Travel, food and gear pack-out and working on backcountry skills.  This day will be a busy one! The group will travel to Monson, ME, known as the final trail town on the AT, to complete your pack-out and learn basic campcraft skills to be used on the trail. The group will camp on the property of the historic Shaw’s Hiker Hostel, whose staff will provide the shuttle to the trailhead the following morning.

July 19th – July 29th: Trekking the 100 Mile Wilderness. The journey begins! The trek will begin just outside Monson, challenging and awing the group as you make your way north.  With a midway resupply planned, the group will work together to navigate mountainous terrain, reach inspiring summits, and traverse pristine bogs and lakes. Evenings will be spent camping under the stars, preparing delicious food, debriefing the day’s adventures, practicing leadership skills, and enjoying time together.

July 30th: Baxter State Park.  The group will exit the 100 Mile Wilderness with your vehicle awaiting at Abol Bridge. A drive into the adjacent Baxter State Park will place you at the foot of Katahdin, the northern terminus of the AT. Weather permitting, you will make a summit bid of the mountain and camp at the Katahdin Stream Campground.

July 31st: Travel and coastal exploration.  The group will make their way back to the Maine coast to Jonesport, where you’ll be immersed in traditional lobstering culture and witness the harsh, beautiful ecosystems of the Northeast Atlantic.

August 1st – 3rd: Acadia National Park. You will celebrate all of your group’s efforts with a foray into one of the most unique places the east coast has to offer. Time on the beach, day hikes through forests and up granite-covered peaks, and two days of rock climbing on sea cliffs will close the trip with plenty of excitement and wonder.

August 4th:  Travel and Debrief. The group will make its way back to Portland to prepare for departure. You’ll have the chance to clean up, (finally) sleep in a bed, and celebrate each other with a final dinner and Closing Ceremony. The group will stay at a hotel near the airport for any early flights the next morning.

August 5th: Departure! Participants return home and spread their newfound knowledge to the greater world.
