Fledgling Forest School Faculty

Come join a team that values Community, relationships and the development of young people! Eagle’s Nest Foundation (ENF) is a non-profit that promotes the natural world and the betterment of human character through experiential education programs and is located in Pisgah Forest, NC. ENF supports three programs: Eagle’s Nest Camp (a residential summer camp for children ages 6-17), Hante Adventures (an off-site adventure program for teens), and The Outdoor Academy (an academic semester boarding school for 10th and 11th graders).

Eagle’s Nest is launching a preschool program pilot in June of 2026, the Fledgling Forest School (FFS). The Fledgling Forest School at Eagle’s Nest employs experiential education for preschool aged children, ages 3-5, that is forest-based and embraces curiosity, creativity through play and hands-on experiences. The Fledgling Forest School’s “classroom” is primarily outdoors. This program benefits from the risk management overhead of the Eagle’s Nest Foundation and its other programs: Eagle’s Nest Camp, Hante Adventures, and The Outdoor Academy. In addition to our robust policies for risk management, the Fledgling Forest School will also maintain a minimum 1:6 staff to student ratio, with a standard of care closer to a 1:4 staff to student ratio.

position summary: 

  • A degree or coursework in Early Childhood Education
  • 1-2 years working with young children, ideally in an outdoor setting
  • Current Child CPR/First Aid; Wilderness First Aid is a plus
  • Be able to work comfortably in rain, heat and cool weather for 3+ hours daily
  • Ability to hike on uneven terrain and lift up to 50 lbs. (gear or small child)
  • Foster a community of wellbeing with clear communication, teamwork, and peer support.

Candidate must be available to work all 4-week long sessions

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

  • Contracted rate is $2,080.00
