David Gilbert, MAT
Treasurer
David Gilbert, MAT
Treasurer
David Gilbert’s introduction to ENF began with a visit in 1993 from then-executive director Helen Waite. Helen came to discuss her dream of a semester school, hoping that Greensboro Day School, in Greensboro, NC, where David was academic dean, would be interested in the concept. Convinced by Helen’s vision for OA, David promoted the idea to his school, and Greensboro Day became one of OA’s six founding member schools. David served as his school’s liaison to OA for the next 25 years, seeing over 40 students from his school attend OA, including two of his daughters. He also served on ENF’s original OA Advisory Committee before joining the ENF Board of Trustees where he served for many years as OA Committee chair and currently serves as Finance Committee chair.
David recently retired from a 44-year career at Greensboro Day where he served as an administrator, teacher of math, physics and computer science, promoter of the musical arts (he is a cellist) and passionate advocate for outdoor experiential education. David feels his primary area of service to the ENF Board is to attend to the long-term vitality and viability of the Outdoor Academy.

She is now a Senior Vice President of the merged company, Bank of America, a member of her church contemporary band, The Grateful Bread, and participates regularly in church dramas and plays at her community theater in Jacksonville Beach.
Wendy B. Heilbut, JD
Wendy B. Heilbut, JD
Wendy first attended Eagle’s Nest in 1992 on a campership and went on to make her way through the ranks from a PA to a Camp Administrator and everything in-between including leading and participating in Hantes and added adventures. Her happy place is, and always will be, 43 Hart Road. She was also a resident and outdoor leader for OA Semester X. Joining the Board in 2020 is the realization of a lifelong dream for Wendy. Her earliest years were spent living in an intentional community in West Virginia and she loves that Eagle’s Nest embodies that same community spirit. Wendy has a BA in Comparative Literature from Indiana University and a JD from American University. Although a country-girl at heart, she lives in New York City with her family where she runs a small law firm; she escapes the hub-bub to her garden on the weekends and sends her older child (the little one can’t wait) to Eagle’s Nest Camp for the summers.

His son Bas was sold after visiting classes with Ted Wesemann and Katie Harris. Bas applied to the OA and attended Semester 44. His experience at OA and our many visits since have developed a strong liking for ENF and its mission. His son Finn is getting ready to apply to be a student of Semester 48. Harold grew up in a small village in the south of the Netherlands. Living in Williamsburg, Virginia with his wife Tracy, their two sons Bas & Finn and their dog Mello, Harold manages to find time to play board and card games with his family, mountain-bike, trail-run and introduce Dutch visitors to the beauty of Virginia. His greatest passion is traveling with his family. Professionally, Harold has been working with Northwestern Mutual as a Wealth Management Advisor since 2006.
Justin Plummer
Justin Plummer
Born and raised in Greensboro, NC, Justin joined the Eagle’s Nest Community in 2002 as a student at The Outdoor Academy (Semester 14). He still vividly recalls the orientation trek, which was his very first overnight camping experience; he got very little sleep because every noise was obviously a bear coming to eat him. His love of outdoor education and intentional community building, introduced to him by OA, only grew during his time at Davidson College. He worked in the Davidson Outdoors office as a work study student and eventually became the President of the outdoor club. He led or participated in more than forty trips over his four years, from canoeing in the Everglades to caving in Blacksburg, VA. He and his husband Daniel currently live in (and love) Durham, NC, where Justin works at the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics.
