Experiential Education at Its Finest

“Experiential education for young people, promoting the natural world and the betterment of human character.”

For over 95 years, the Eagle’s Nest Foundation has been living out that mission statement here in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina. For more than 25 of those years, OA has been a critical part of the Foundation’s model. Each semester, up to 28 bright young minds travel to our 182-acre campus in Pisgah Forest. Here, they spend 4 months in a close-knit intentional community where creative arts, wilderness adventures, and environmental studies all combine in a dynamic, place-based academic curriculum.

A Community that Learns Together

The Outdoor Academy is more than just a place to work. It’s a family made up of students and faculty who live, learn, explore, and play together. Our 1200+ alumni have returned home as leaders in their own communities, with a better sense of who they are and who they want to be in this world. That leadership and self-confidence gained during an OA semester is facilitated by our incredible faculty.  Whether you’re a seasoned rock climber, have a passion for piano, write in your spare time, or run trail races on your off days, there is a place for you here.

We welcome new faculty who will contribute to our intellectual community, and encourage applicants from diverse religious, racial, ethnic, geographic, socioeconomic, and political backgrounds to apply.
